Now playing: songs in my head @ 6:42 PM
My first thought looking around my room was how bad I need to clean. Needless to say, that never got done.. oh, surprise! lol. I took a nap today so bedtime won't be anytime soon. I've got time.
I've got some issues to tackle. First on the list: "welfare". For any of you who know me, you know me well enough to know that the last couple of years have been very, very tough for me and family. I had a daughter (by choice, thank you) and was in and out of a relationship with her dad. Things are great between us. We're fine and we're friends. Civil. Which is something I thought we'd never be. Anyway, mixed in with that was being robbed at gunpoint at my job, being denied unemployment after that, people passing away and the sexual assault. And don't forget the mass amounts of psychological therapy I had to go through to try and mend whatever was left of my dignity. But I'm here. I'm alive and I made it.
I am on STATE ASSISTANCE. That's the correction for anyone who calls it welfare still, because it's not what it seems. I can't tell people how to feel, and I'm not gonna lie, I felt anger towards people who took advantage of our system because they were "too lazy to work".. until I was in that situation. Truth is.. I'm not lazy, and I absolutely dispise sitting around all day with no job or money. I have a degree, in the medical field, and can't find a job anywhere. A LOT of people judge me, and everyone else, on state assistance because we "suck the system dry", which there are people that have no job and get money from the state who by no means deserve it. I drive a 1991 Ford Taurus, and when I go to the Medicaid office, people pull up in their brand new cars next to me, with their 5 kids and they have all the "benefits" of state assistance. Well, here's the truth about the real deal with state help..
FYI: I DON'T have health insurance. People think I automatically have Medicaid. Wrong. My daughter does, but I'm considered "Medically Needy" (so complicated to explain). The most ridiculous thing about it, is I have NO INCOME, but was denied Medicaid (which BTW - if you're over the age of 21, you have ABSOLUTELY NO DENTAL COVERAGE!). Makes no sense. Even when I had a full-time job that paid 7.00/hr, they told me I made too much money a month to receive assistance for food and health needs. REALLY? I was unaware that $280 a week was enough to pay bills and take care of a child. It's NOT. And thanks to our lovely, thief governor Rick Scott, the income for "needy families" has gone DOWN. So, I am denied for everything except food stamps, which isn't much, but helps a lot because I have no other income. But it doesn't pay for clothes for my daughter, rent, electric, daycare.. just FOOD.
